Skimmer

 

This board was made to the style of a board that I saw being used at Perran’ a couple of years ago and varies quite a bit from the usual stuff I make.

 

It is a short board, only 31” in overall length X 1’ wide, parallel sided with a “bullet” nose. A radial upwards curve in the leading edge and a lateral concave to a depth of 1” within the last ⅓ of the board to increase the speed and enable the rider to track the wall of the wave. The trailing edge has been shaped with a rounded “body-slot” to assist in the take-off and allow the rider to get close onto the board quicker and into a higher position on the board easier.

 

The bottom is plain, with only the grampy teds logo sticker encased within the waterproofing layers, and the upper face (unusually) bears the off-set lines up to a hand-painted (by Grampy Ted) image of a cartoon belly-boarder emerging from a tube, whilst the painting of the wave itself follows the contour of the leading curve, all sealed within the varnishing layers.

 

This will be one of the very few boards NOT to bear the logo pyrographed into the surface of the board (because it would’ve spoiled the overall finish that I wanted)
